MI World Symposium in Tokyo

MI World Symposium in Tokyo commemorating GC CORPORATION 95th Anniversary and GC Membership society 60th Anniversary was held at JP Tower Hall & Conference (KITTE) on February 5th, 2017.

At the beginning of the symposium, Prof. Elmar Reich (Germany) who is a coordinator of this symposium made a keynote speech lecture on “ ‘It’s time to change’ MI the new path to a successful practice in 21st century!”. In his speech, he presented how to introduce MITP (MI Treatment Plan) into daily practice. MITP was developed by GC MI Advisory Board after working for approximately 10 years.

In the morning session, “Changes History of MI Program in Europe- What is Patient Oriented MI based on the latest evidence?”, three members of GC MI Advisory Board presented prospects of MI in the future. Initially, Dr. Esther Ruiz de Castaneda (Spain) emphasized early detection of caries by a holistic approach and the importance on analyzing factors causing caries. Secondly, Dr. Matteo Basso (Italy) presented long term preventive care by choosing appropriate materials and considering patient’s generation. Consequently, Prof. Ivana Miletic (Croatia) closed this morning session with her presentation on minimally invasive restorative procedure based on biological aspects.

In the afternoon session, “Age-appropriate MI” started with 4 presenters introducing practical clinical case with aspects of age, disease, treatment, and dental materials.
Initially, Dr. Patricia Gaton (Spain) introduced how to achieve successful results by MI treatment in pediatrics. After that, Dr. Pamela Maragliano-Muniz (United States) introduced clinical cases where MI approach and complex restorative and prosthetic treatment are required. In addition, Prof. Mikako Hayashi (Japan) presented why we have to strengthen MI concept and the role for supporting patients to extend healthy life in a dentistry combined with latest evidence, materials and high level clinical techniques. Finally, Prof. Ian Meyers, a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia in this January for his contribution to dental associations and dental education, had a lecture. Focusing on preservation, restoration and prosthesis dentistry for elderly patients, he mentioned it is essential for general practitioners to contribute keeping patient’s health with functional and aesthetic teeth by preserving and restoring patient’s teeth. He also added the importance of MI management strategies which are easy to introduce in order to respond to wide varieties of requests from patients in various clinical situations.

For product exhibition, GC booth was full of customers. In addition to glass ionomer cement and preventive materials, we introduced resin composite products such as G-aenial, new dental cement; G-CEM LinkForce, press ceramic; Initial Li-Si Press and so on. Mondelēz Japan which is famous for Recaldent gum, also joined in our booth.
